Naylor talks AI with BBC

Barnsley based Naylor Group was featured on the BBC TV’s The One Show on 21 April. Chief executive Edward Naylor was interviewed about the use of Artificial Intelligence within the company’s plastic pipes business.

Since 2024, the company, which makes around 30 million meters of pipe a year, has been using AI to optimise how its lorries are loaded. manufacture about. Naylor talked on camera about how, previously, such things were more educated guesswork. “You’d assemble a load and find you couldn’t get it all on. And what we have now, thanks to AI, is the science which allows us to get exactly the right numbers on the lorry,” he said.

“From our point of view, it’s more revenue. From the planet’s point of view, you’ve got fully laden lorries going out, rather than lorries with blank spaces on. I think AI will take away boring, repetitive jobs and it will allow people who want to develop skills to progress and really move up the skill chain.”
