Maddie’s Day 2026: And it was all yellow

I will be strange, stout, in yellow stockings,

What do you get if you take a boiling hot May day, 180 golfers and assorted supporters and hangers-on, and a drive to do something positive for the future of the industry? You get the launch, earlier this year of the Maddie Rose Foundation, the sector’s own charity created to help open up our industry to young people and support them as they begin their journey into it.

This Friday, 18th September, is Maddie’s Day, the first one since the charity took flight on its own, after being developed and nurtured with the help of the Construction Youth Trust.

Every single one of you is invited to take part in Maddie’s Day by simply wearing something yellow. It is not a colour that suits everyone, but it is cheerful, hopeful, and most importantly eye-catching. Because this is about raising awareness. About getting noticed.

So, dig out the yellow shirt, dress, tie, socks, hat, or even your hi-vis. Wear it with pride and then take a photograph, lots, and post them everywhere. Send your efforts to BMJ and we’ll add them to our coverage

It doesn’t have to be about stuff you actually have on your person either: see how many yellow cars you can ‘collect’ during the day. Find some yellow flowers, food, front doors, buildings…If it’s yellow, and you’ve seen it, we want you to share it. And use the hashtags #maddiesday2026

Put all those images on LinkedIn, on Instagram, on Facebook, on Threads. Post it on X – Twitter in old money – if you have to.

The idea is to create a great big, gloriously yellow social media takeover. If you want to donate to the Foundation so that we can keep on funding ways of opening up the sector to young people, then that would be fabulous too. https://www.justgiving.com/charity/Maddie-Rose-Foundation

The awesome guys at Keyline are walking 25k across 16 Thames bridges, – sporting of course, their finest yellow garb – and I can’t wait to see their pictures. https://www.justgiving.com/page/klssethamesbridgetrek2026

Every picture you take, every post that you write helps to raise awareness of what the Maddie Rose Foundation wants to achieve. This is all about helping more young people find their way into an industry that needs them.

It is also, of course, about remembering an amazing, beautiful, talented young woman who loved this industry. It is about building a legacy and making a difference, about helping to build futures.

That is why we do it. So, on Friday 18 September, let’s make sure nobody can miss us.

Go yellow for Maddie’s Day. You know you want to.
