JELD-WEN opens Sheffield manufacturing facility

Doorset manufacturer JELD-WEN UK has officially opened its new 294,000 sq ft manufacturing facility at Bessemer Park in Sheffield, following a £20 million investment in its UK operations.

The purpose-built facility provides JELD-WEN with a larger, more flexible environment for manufacturing and distribution, with modern equipment and a layout designed to support efficient production, productivity and innovation as customer requirements evolve.

Environmental considerations have also been incorporated into the design of the facility, achieving a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating and EPC A rating, while solar PV panels are expected to generate approximately 90,084kWh of electricity each year. An air-source heating and cooling system, rainwater harvesting and electric forklifts will also support more efficient use of energy and resources.

Director of operations, Hamish White, comments; “The opening of our new Sheffield site at Bessemer Park is an exciting milestone for JELD-WEN and represents an important investment in the future of our UK operations.”

“Throughout the transition, our priority has been to maintain the quality, reliability and service our customers expect. We have the same experienced team and commitment to our customers, but now with a facility that gives us a stronger platform for the future.”

Alongside the new site, the company’s Penrith facility has undergone targeted investment, including the introduction of a third line that will increase production by 50%.
