Travis Perkins colleague undertakes arctic challenge

Braving sub-Arctic temperatures and unforgiving terrain, Andrew Craig, an account manager at Travis Perkins Managed Services, completed a gruelling two-day ski expedition in February to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Society in honour of his father, who is living with dementia.

The challenge saw Craig traverse frozen lakes and snow-covered landscapes, enduring temperatures as low as -25°C and biting winds that pushed his endurance to the limit. With no previous skiing experience, he learned on the go—facing bruises, exhaustion, and the constant battle of adapting to an extreme environment.Andrew Craig Travis Perkins Managed Services 4

“The physical and mental demands were far more intense than I imagined,” Craig said. “The cold felt like it was cutting right through to the bone. Every day brought new challenges, but each step reminded me why I was there.”

Despite the punishing conditions, Craig found strength in the camaraderie of his fellow adventurers. “We laughed through the pain,” he added. “The support of such an incredible group made those tough moments bearable.”

The expedition tested not only his physical resilience but also his emotional resolve. “My father has dementia, and that made the pain more meaningful. Knowing I was helping a cause so close to my heart gave me the motivation to keep going.”

So far, Andrew has raised an impressive £1,400 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Georgie Davies, corporate account manager at the charity, praised his efforts: “Andrew is a superstar! His remarkable achievement will help us continue to provide vital support for those living with dementia today, and fund research that offers hope for the future. Around one million people in the UK are currently living with dementia, and we’re so grateful for Andrew’s dedication.”

Craig’s journey was supported by Travis Perkins Managed Services and KWG Building & Civils Contractor, based in North Wales. His determination has helped bring much-needed attention to the realities of dementia and the ongoing need for support and research.
