The Office of Fair Trading is looking into the proposed takeover of heating and plumbing merchant BSS group by builders merchant group Travis Perkins.
The OFT is considering whether the deal, if it went ahead, would, in fact, count as a merger situation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002.
If that were to be the case, the OFT would then have to consider whether there would competition issue which would need to be referred to the Competition Commission for investigation and report.
