Ex ski-jumper and Olympian Eddie lead the official opening of MKM’s new branch in Gloucester, located just around the corner from the dry ski slope where he learnt his legendary skills.
Customers in branch were thrilled for the opportunity to meet and take pictures with the local legend, as Eddie soared down the heating and plumbing aisle like a pro and showed off his snowplough in the warehouse.
Local charity Gloucester Feed The Hungry – one of MKM Gloucester’s official community partners – were on hand to receive the proceeds of the fundraising efforts of the MKM Gloucester team, with a cheque for £580 presented to Founder Hashim Norat.
The funds raised will provide 1160 hot meals (enough meals to keep the project going for two and a half weeks) for those in need in the local community, including those experiencing homelessness and vulnerable senior citizens. The branch is also partnering with Gloucester City AFC, a club that is committed to giving back to the local community as well.
Charles McArthur, co-branch director at MKM Gloucester, said: “Whether you’re an expert trades person, DIY enthusiast or looking to renovate your property, MKM Gloucester has everything you need to keep your project on track!
“We had a great day officially opening the branch to both trade and retail customers and we cannot wait to deliver excellent service to the region. From a first-class trade counter offering to our stunning kitchen and bathroom showroom, there’s something for everyone at the branch. We can’t wait to welcome people from the local community and beyond through the door over the coming months!”
Rob Caren, co-branch director at MKM Gloucester, added: “We were so excited to welcome the brilliant Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards in branch – his unbelievable energy and enthusiasm certainly rubbed off on our team! To welcome someone who holds such a special place in the hearts of the people of Gloucestershire to support the launch was fantastic.
“At MKM Gloucester, our aim is to provide the best merchant experience to our customers. As an independent local business, we are also committed to making a positive impact on our local community and giving back. The team has committed to raising funds for Gloucester Feed the Hungry and will also be giving up their own time to help Hashim and his volunteers. This is just the beginning though, as we continue to identify more partners in the immediate area who we look forward to working with in the near future.”
