Independent Ductworth Ltd fined after worker injured

Independent Ductwork Limited, a Hampshire metal manufacturing company, has been fined after an employee suffered an injury.
On October 6th 2014, the Basingstoke Magistrate’s Court heard about the injury caused to 18 year old Independent Ductwork Limited employer, who’s gloved fingers were drawn into the rollers of a three-roll machine, resulting in the finger needing to be amputated.

According to HSE guidelines, gloves with fingers are prohibited within this line of work, as they increase the risk of injury. Independent Ductwork Limited was fined a total of £6,000 on September 24th 2015, and paid £1,381.35 in costs after pleading guilty to an offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974.
