Nationwide multi-utility supply chain partner Fusion Utilities reuses two thousand tonnes of wood each year as part of its cable drum collection service, reinforcing its commitment to making a positive impact.
The cable used on electricity networks is delivered on wooden drums to thousands of locations across the UK each year. Often, these drums are left to rot or break on the premises after a job is completed. In a bid to reduce on-site waste, Fusion Utilities introduced a recycling scheme, which sees the supplier offering a cable drum collection service to its customers.
Thanks to the service, in 2021 more than 80% of drums sent out by Fusion Utilities were recycled — that’s 6,759 out of 8,305. This number was expected to increase in 2022 and has resulted in the equivalent of two thousand tonnes of wood being saved. The service has other advantages too. Leftover equipment can often cause health and safety issues, so the service can help prevent this, and offer customers additional peace of mind.
National sales director, Jon Taylor, said: “Fusion Utilities prides itself on making a positive impact in everything we do, so we launched our cable drum collection service as part of our continued commitment. Not only this, but continued innovation is key to our customer-first approach.”
The drum collection service accompanies the supplier’s industry-leading pre-cut cable service. Available in its Chesterfield, Livingstone and Thurrock branches, the innovative service allows sites to specify exactly the cable length they require for each specific job, helping customers to manage their jobs better and preventing on-site theft.
