Concrete product and cement manufacturer Cemex has opened a new ready-mixed concrete plant in York.
The £1.3m batch plant replaces Cemex’s old plant on a three-quarter of an acre site surrounded by homes, which was built 39 years ago. The old site will now be sold for development.
The fully automated plant will be operated by one man, John Kirraine, who has been with the company for 13 years.
The new site will allow the company to be more sustainable and productive, making 60m of ready mixed concrete and hour and recycling water.
