I didn't get to go to the RICS election hustings event that Building magazine and Property Week ran last night but I rather wish I had. However, thanks to the miracle of modern technology, I've been made aware of some of the promises/ideas/pledges that were heard by the audience.

The BMF Members Day was everything that an event organized by a modern trade association should be.

Am I the only one to find it particularly ironic that the notification that Interbuild aka BEST is cancelled for this year arrives the day before Ecobuild opens? It's hardly the most surprising news we've ever published. Interbuild has been called a 'shadow of its former self' for several years now.

I was eating my breakfast when I read the Travis Perkins half-year results. So there I was, stopped in my tracks with a piece of toast half-way to my mouth, by an impressive 54% rise in turnover and an eye-watering 26% rise in profits.

Am I the only one getting a teeny bit confused with all the toings-and-froings with the Feed-In-Tariff saga?

Well this is all a bit of a shambles isn't it? The biggest, most high-profile event the UK has ever held starts next week and, oops, we haven't got enough security guards for it.

In my Christmas wish-list blog I asked Father Christmas for a Government that's prepared to listen to the construction industry and act upon some of its suggestions to help boost, not just construction, but the economy as a whole. Fat chance of that it seems.

I'm finding myself rather taken with Nick Boles, the Planning Minister.

We asked for Government help to boost the housing market and we got it, eventually.
