A gifted amateur photographer from Carlisle has beaten off fierce competition to snap up an EEF National Manufacturing Photography Award, sponsored by Liberty House Group and in partnership with the GREAT Campaign.
Steve McLellan, from Carlisle, was named Best Amateur Photographer in the Manufacturing Product category at the final of EEF’s manufacturing photography competition held on Tuesday 20th November in Westminster. As well as the title, Steve walked away with a share of £5000 in prizes.
McLellan wowed judges with his eye-catching image of finished jacking pipes manufactured by Barnsley based Naylor Drainage which were awaiting shipment to all points of the globe. Judges felt the image was original and unique as the display of hidden colour resulted in a strong and interesting image.
The competition, now in its 9th year, seeks creative images that capture the essence of modern manufacturing. Photographs can portray any stage of manufacturing – from design, process and technology in action through to the finished product – and can cover traditional or high-tech sectors.
In addition to being a skilled photographer, Steve is the Managing Director of pipe distributor JDP, a major customer of Naylor Drainage Ltd.
McLellan says: “I loved taking part in this competition as manufacturing is a fantastic subject matter, offering such diverse opportunities for dramatic or challenging shots. It’s a very visual industry, but also very demanding of the photographer – it requires a good eye, skill and patience to truly do it justice.
“I’m proud to have been named winner and it has been an honour seeing my work on display alongside so many other fantastic images of modern-day UK manufacturing.”
