BSW Group supports 49 community and charity causes

BSW Group’s Community Support Committee has supported 49 worthy causes across the UK since between March and June this year.

Part of the Group’s ongoing ESG programme, the committee aims to more effectively meet the needs of communities across the UK.

Gavin McLaughlin, head of ESG at BSW Group, said: “We are delighted with the success of our Community Support Committee in recent months. Across the Group we’ve been able to extend our support to a range of sponsorships, financial and material donations, as well as various causes, events, and projects.BSW Groups Community Support Committee supports 49 causes in Q2

“From agriculture and forestry projects to charitable initiatives, communities, schools, sports, research, and the environment, our comprehensive support underscores our commitment to making a meaningful impact across a broad spectrum of needs.

“We’d like to thank everyone who has submitted a request for support, and we hope that many more will do the same in future. Working together we can make a real impact and promote social value in our local communities across the Group.”

From sponsoring soapbox derbies and providing IT equipment for schools, to supporting charity hikes and national educational initiatives, the committee is helping BSW Group extend its support to a range of fantastic causes.

Dunfermline Children’s Gala

BSW Group was proud to support the Dunfermline Children’s Gala with a donation that contributed to 2,200 lunch bags for the event. A resounding success, the gala’s parade was attended by 3,000 people, while an estimated 9,000 people came to Pittencrieff Park (known locally as The Glen) for an afternoon of fun and games.

Thornhill 10K

BSW Group donated to runners from H&R Gray Haulage who participated in the Thornhill 10k organised by Tay Fitness Events. The charity run was created in honour of Steven Black, a local dairy farmer who passed away in 2020 after a short battle with duodenal cancer.

Lampeter Town Junior Football Festival

BSW Group also sponsored the under-6s tournament at Lampeter Town Junior Football Festival – a cause which is close to Tilhill Forestry’s regional office in Llandovery. Alongside a great day of football for the young players, BSW’s sponsorship provided a trophy and medal for each child who competed.

Castle Douglas Soap Box Derby

BSW Group also supported the 2024 Castle Douglas Soap Box Derby. The annual event in Castle Douglas sees teams of soapboxes race on King Street. The derby draws thousands of spectators to Castle Douglas, near BSW Timber’s sawmill in Dalbeattie, and is run by volunteers who rely completely on sponsorship, donations and fundraising.

Ysgol Calon Cymru PTA
BSW Group contributed to the PTA event for Ysgol Calon Cymru, helping to purchase new IT equipment for the school, which is local to BSW Timber’s Newbridge-on-Wye site

Sitka Spruce: The Amazing Timber Tree
Finally, BSW Group contributed to ‘Sitka Spruce: The Amazing Timber Tree’ – a children’s book aiming to educate the next generation on sustainability and how the natural resource of timber is used to construct the world around us.
