Wolseley to take debtors to court

Debt-ridden builders merchant group Wolseley is taking court action against a number of small, family firms who owe it money.

According to a report in The Daily Telegraph, the petition to have the 15 companies wound up will be heard by at the Birmingham County Court next week.

The companies include bespoke timber frame providers Bolton Buildings, based in Uckfield, Sussex property developers EDC Property Services and Apex Builders from Middlesex, as well as Better Building Solutions from Somerset and Kilmister Homes from Staffordshire.

Wolseley reported a £965m pre-tax loss in the six months to the end of January and has taken action to reduce costs, including closing branches, restructuring divisions and shedding 2,000 staff.
