NBG appoints Hayward as non-exec chairman

Independent builders merchant buying group NBG has announced the appointment of Chris Hayward as its new Non‑Executive Chair from 1st July 2026.

As former CEO of NMBS, Hayward has been a long‑standing supporter of the independent merchant community and will bring deep sector knowledge, strategic insight and a highly collaborative approach to the role.

He said: “I’m delighted to be joining NBG. It’s a business I’ve admired since its formation, and I’m looking forward to working closely with the board, executive team and Partners to build on past successes, strengthen collaboration, and navigate the sector’s challenges and opportunities together.”

The NBG Board said that it would like to thank out-going chairman Stephen Harrison for the “positive impact he has made on NBG during his time in the role and wish Stephen every success for the future.”
