The managing director of north-east independent builders merchant Thompson Building Centres made an appearance on ITN’s News at Ten bulletin on Tuesday night.
The report, ‘Looking for the Big Society in Sunderland’ was looking at the effects of the recession on the region and to see if the Government’s vision of a ‘Big Society’ is becoming a reality.
Anne Ganley, Thompson’s managing director, was highlighted for her efforts in helping the community through the recession. This includes offering the use of part of her business premises to a struggling boxing gym for free.
Ganley told the programme: “When the recession hit I needed less space, so I’ve turned a negative into a positive.”
