More than 200 guests, including suppliers, industry leaders and journalists, attended the dinner at the Manchester Marriott Victoria and Albert and were treated to a night of entertainment and opportunities to network.

Comedians Rod Woodward and Kevin Connolly delivered lively sets, while brothers Nicholas and Andrew Howarth both gave insightful speeches about the history of the company, where it was revealed the company will be opening a new branch in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

In his speech, Nicholas praised Howarth Timber’s suppliers and the role they play in the ongoing success of the business. He said: “We recognise the importance of having strong and mutually beneficial relationships with our suppliers.

“We value suppliers that enable us to offer good quality and ethical products to our customers, at competitive prices and with high levels of customer service.”

The evening also saw more than £5,500 raised for Howarth Timber’s partner charity, Caudwell Children, through a silent raffle and donations from guests.

Howarth Timber celebrates 175th anniversary

The Howarth Timber Group is celebrating its 175th anniversary in 2015 and has a line-up of events, competitions and roadshows planned to mark the occasion in style.

The company started trading in 1840 as Hudson & Co and has since grown to become one of the leading resources for all things timber related, as well as providing building materials across the country.

Kicking things off will be a scratchcard prize draw. Anyone who makes a collection order of more than £50+vat will automatically receive a free scratchcard with prizes ranging from screws and saws to supercar driving experiences. The grand prize, though, is an IVECO Daily van worth more than £25,000.

A constant presence throughout the middle part of the year will be the exclusive Howarth Timber 175 Roadshows, which will visit each and every one of Howarth’s 28 branches. Each event will give customers the opportunity to take advantage of special offers, experience product demonstrations and get stuck into some free, hearty food. They will also have the chance to take part in the Jack Challenge, which will allow them to show off their sawing skills for a chance to win the grand prize of £5,000.

Neale Brewster, marketing and product development manager, said: “This year promises to be one of the most exciting in Howarth Timber’s history, as we say thank you to all of our loyal customers with a host of fantastic events.

“The support of our customers has been an integral part of our success over the years and we’re looking forward to sharing many more years of success with them.”
