FMB seeks Green Deal clarity

Builders organisation the Federation of Master Builders is seeking clarity on how its members might be able to take part in the Green Deal, the Government’s energy -efficiency improvement initiative for households.

Brian Berry, FMB director of External Affairs met with the Green Deal policy team within the Department for Energy and Climate Change last week to discuss progress to date.

Berry reiterated the FMB’s concern about the proposed contractual relationship between the Green Deal Provider and the customer which will mean that installers will be cut out of the process unless they subcontract to a Green Deal Provider or become one themselves.

DECC confirmed that because of the delay of the Energy Bill receiving Royal Assent the Green Deal consultation papers will not be published until late October 2011. The consultation period will be ten weeks and the FMB will be responding.
