The branch manager of Chandlers Building Supplies’ Great Bookham branch has raised £1,632 for Allergy UK after completing the 100km Nightrider London bike ride overnight between Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June.
Chris Vernon started the race at Crystal Palace at 11.20pm on Saturday night and finished cycling at 7.44am on Sunday morning, when he returned to where he had set off from 8 hours and 24 minutes earlier.
Vernon, who is delighted to have beaten his target of £1,500, said: “It was a challenge riding through the capital as it was continually stop start for the traffic lights and the London traffic didn’t seem to ease until around 5am, but I’m chuffed to have raised over £1,500 for Allergy UK. A friend of mine has daughters who suffer from allergies on a daily basis, which is why I wanted to take on the bike ride and raise money for such a great charity.
“Not only have friends and family supported me, but Chandlers and our Great Bookham branch customers have also make donations to my fundraising; a big thank you to everyone.”
Allergy UK is the leading national charity providing advice, information and support to the estimated 21 million people that suffer from allergies and food intolerances in the UK.
