Hanson is bringing together its Castle Cement and Civil and Marine businesses to form the UK’s largest producer of cement-related products under the new brand of Hanson Cement.
Castle Cement has around 25% of the UK Portland cement market, while Civil and Marine is a leading producer of ground granulated blastfurnace slag (GGBS) a high-quality cement replacement used in ready-mixed and precast concrete.
As Hanson Cement, the combined business will operate nine production sites and depots with a centralised ordering system, one invoice and one point of contact.
Hanson Cement commercial director Keith Ellis, said that there will be no change to products, just the brand. “The Castle branding, with its iconic red turret, will remain on all our packed products We will offer a one-stop shop for cement products and the potential to produce the most sustainable concrete available in the UK.”
The move, which is supported by investment in new IT systems to ensure a smooth transition, comes as part of Hanson’s ongoing strategy to position itself as the leading supplier of heavy building materials to the construction industry.
