BSS have opened a brand new 47,500sq ft national distribution centre for linear product at Cross Point Business Park, near Coventry.

The centre represents BSS’ single largest investment in distribution since the opening of its Magna Park warehouse in Leicestershire and has the capacity to store 2,600 bundles of tube.
The new site will allow the company to develop into wider markets water, pharmaceuticals, food and drink, chemical, power, ship building, automotive, dairy and aggregates. And the stock profile will be expanded to include all types of linear including 1387, API, stainless and plastic.
Says managing director Frank Elkins, “Within our business we have had the specialist knowledge to support these niche markets for many years, but up until now we didn’t have infrastructure in place to support the product requirements.”
A new fleet of vehicles will service the centre, but customers will also be offered the facility to collect direct. And, says Mr Elkins, this will increase deliveries and therefore, reduce lead times.
“This national distribution centre will dramatically increase our ability to supply linear product to the market. It will give us the capacity to make up to three deliveries per week to our nationwide network of 56 branches, on a lead time of either 24 or 48 hours.”
Frank continued: “With this regular and reliable access to linear stock our branches will be able to provide an excellent and consistent level of service on a much broader range of products and manage large contracts more efficiently.”
The facility began trading in early August but was officially opened today by BSS Group ceo, Gavin Slark.
