Stable door closes at IBMG

Independent Builders Merchants Group has announced today (December 10) that Martin Stables, CEO since 2021, is stepping down to pursue other opportunities.

IBMG’s Richard Robinson, currently CFO, is taking over as CEO from Martin Stables, until a successorr is appointed. 

 

Richard Robinson, currently CFO, has been appointed as Interim CEO, effective immediately, while maintaining his CFO duties during the brief transition. Together with Stables, IBMG’s Board of Directors has been conducting a comprehensive search for a permanent successor, which is expected to be completed over course of the first quarter of 2026.

Stables steps down following the completion of a major transformation for the group. During his tenure, he played a
pivotal role in steering IBMG through a change of ownership, securing a significant refinancing package, and executing key strategic initiatives.

A statement issued this morning says that the Board of Directors has been working on a structured succession plan to ensure
seamless continuity.  He will guide the company through a planned short transition period while the Board concludes a comprehensive search for a permanent successor.

IBMG includes a number of builders and plumbers merchant brands across the south of Engand:

  • Builders’ Merchants: Parker Building Supplies, Grant & Stone, RGB Building Supplies, Chandlers Building Supplies, Fairalls Builders Merchants, Buildit, CRS Building Supplies, Kent Blaxill.
  • Plumbing & Heating: Total Plumbing Supplies, Dougfield Plumbers Supplies, DW Burns, SPS Plumbing, RGB Plumbing & Heating.
  • Roofing: Chandlers Roofing Supplies, Independent Roofing Supplies, MS Roofing, Roofing Gear.
  • Electrical: Devondale Electrical, Trading Depot.
  • Timber: Stamco Timber.
