The Carbon Trust certified that the group reduced its absolute carbon emissions by 32.8% between August 2010 and July 2012.

Its qualitative assessment score of 82.5% showed “effectiveness at responding to climate change through governance, carbon accounting, and carbon management.”

Wolseley UK’s latest environmental projects have included a trial to redesign branch lighting and replace bulbs with LED lights, which resulted in site electricity reductions of up to 60%.

A routing system has also been rolled out across the company’s fleet that enables efficient use of vehicles and plans delivery routes and shares vehicles.

Rebecca Lascelles, Environmental Advisor, Wolseley UK said: “Reducing our carbon footprint isn’t a single project with a finite end date. We continually strive for environmental excellence, employing the latest green thinking to cyclically implement, monitor and assess. We’re proud to have been recognised by the Carbon Trust for our ongoing work in this area.”
