Travis Perkins, supplier of building materials to the building and construction industry, has supplied materials to a Remembrance tribute created by The Shepshed Community Poppy Project, a crocheting group in the East Midlands.
The Shepshed Community Poppy Project saw more than 300 people come together over the last year to knit hundreds of decorative poppies and other decorations ahead of Remembrance Day on November 11.
The group has covered Shepshed Community Hall with the poppies, as well as building a decorative war aeroplane and a remarkable fully crocheted horse.
The Project has received backing from lots of local businesses, including Travis Perkins’ Shepshed branch on Old Station Close, which provided the timber for the aeroplane and horse at a discounted rate, and donated poles for the displays.
Matt Cockerell, Travis Perkins’ Shepshed assistant branch manager, said: “The display looks incredible. It is great to be able to able to help a customer and a local community project. To thank us, the committee has even crocheted a hanging basket for us to put up in our store. It is brilliant to have played a small role in the display.”
