LKAB Minerals and Real Green Concrete have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing a strategic partnership focused the development and supply of low-carbon, cement-free concrete solutions.
With the industry working towards carbon-neutral concrete by 2050, this partnership will explore and develop solutions that help remove reliance on OPC while maintaining performance standards required by modern construction.
Real Green Concrete’s technology removes the need for Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), instead utilising by-products that would otherwise be diverted to landfill. This approach has the potential to reduce embodied carbon emissions and lower water consumption by up to 30%, offering a practical route towards more resource-efficient construction.
Steve Handscomb, cementitious managing director at LKAB Minerals, said: “Decarbonising concrete requires practical alternatives that can perform at scale. Real Green Concrete has developed an exciting cement-free approach, and through this partnership we can help bring this innovation closer to mainstream construction applications. Partnerships like this are essential if the industry is going to decarbonise at the pace required.”
