Colchester United will kick off the season in August at their brand new community stadium, which has been built with bricks and blocks supplied by Kent Blaxill.
The East Anglian builders merchants delivered 140,000 bricks and 12,000 sq m of blocks for the complex, as well as timber and paint when required, and the stadium doors.
Sales rep Damien Ferridge was the instigator of the relationship between KB and Barr Ltd. His initial approach via site manager Stephen Gunn led to the successful negotiation with the buying office, which is based in Paisley near Glasgow.
Sales manager Andy Whitney said: “KB is very thankful to Barr Ltd for supporting local industry.”
The blocks chosen for the project were the Hanson cellular paint grade type, which was also used for the rebuilding of Wembley Stadium. The bricks were Ibstock Goldens.
“I was delighted with the way it all went,” said Damien. “We were the first merchant to approach Barr when they went on site last June and began putting the jigsaw together.
“The relationship we developed with Stephen Gunn has gone from strength to strength and we are now very hopeful of a continuing relationship with Barr.”
