The challenge is fully backed by the company, who have pledged to support Mr Halton’s effort as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations.

The five-day event takes riders across 250 miles of American desert and those attempting it this year will include a total of 12 cyclists raising money for Wakefield Hospice. The net income fro the event for the hospice is likely to be around £40,000 and Mr Halton plans to raise in excess of £5,000 of that.

Speaking on behalf of the company, marketing manager Hal Eccles said, “We fully support Mick’s commitment to this challenge. 2007 marks 25 years in business for Lawcris and throughout the year we have pledged to support a number of our employees in various fundraising initiatives.”
