BSI publishes PAS 2000 safety standard

The Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has welcomed the publication of PAS 2000 by British Standards Institution (BSI), a new Publicly Available Specification that provides guidance to improve the safety of construction products placed on the UK market.

The specification has been developed following experience gained from PAS 7050:2022, which addresses the safety of consumer products.

The draft of PAS 2000 was released for public consultation last summer, and worked through industry feedback to finalise and publish the specification.

PAS 2000 sets out practical steps to help them demonstrate that products are safe for their intended use before they are supplied. The specification applies to all construction products, including those not covered by EU harmonised or UK designated standards.

The guidance covers several areas including risk assessment, factory production control, product information, and the collection and use of market feedback. It also addresses the reporting and investigation of safety critical incidents.

DHF’s general manager and secretary, Michael Skelding comments; “It brings together practical advice on areas such as risk assessment, production control and the monitoring of safety related feedback from the market.”
