British Gypsum launches 100% recycled plasterboard

British Gypsum, part of Saint-Gobain Interior Solutions has unveiled Gyproc SoundBloc Infinaé 100, providing the industry with the first UK manufactured plasterboard made from 100% recycled gypsum and setting a new benchmark for sustainable construction.

Dean O’Sullivan, managing director at Saint-Gobain Interior Solutions, said: “The new Gyproc SoundBloc Infinaé 100 is a testament to British Gypsum’s commitment to the circular economy and dedication to shaping a more sustainable future for the construction industry. This breakthrough will showcase what is possible when we invest in the future of our industry and the planet, paving the way for a new standard in environmental responsibility.”Screenshot 2025 01 17 at 10.27.15

This innovation is the result of a new industrial process. Plasterboard waste from construction sites is transformed into high-quality plasterboard, supporting the circular economy and helping construction companies achieve their sustainability targets.

It builds on the success of British Gypsum’s plasterboard recycling service. Contractors can sign up for British Gypsum to collect new build waste and scrap from not only new British Gypsum plasterboard but also Gyproc Driwall Adhesive and most Thistle plasters.

“As leaders in sustainable manufacturing, British Gypsum is proud to deliver a product that embodies both quality and environmental stewardship,” added O’Sullivan “Our innovative 100% recycled plasterboard is more than just a product; it’s a further step towards a circular future where business and environmental goals align for a better world.”

The launch of Gyproc SoundBloc Infinaé 100 recycled plasterboard is another UK first sustainability initiative from British Gypsum, which is committed to reaching Net Zero Carbon by 2050. In 2024, British Gypsum also became the first building materials manufacturer in UK construction to partner with The Pallet LOOP, a circular economy pallet supplier. Increasingly, British Gypsum goods such as Gyproc and Glasroc are shipped on easily identifiable, green-coloured LOOP pallets, in a bid to radically reduce avoidable pallet waste.

“This Gyproc SoundBloc Infinaé 100 is another example of British Gypsum’s mission to push the limits of sustainable building,” said O’Sullivan “By focusing on recycling, reusing and regenerating materials, we aim to reduce environmental impact, conserve finite resources and drive sustainable economic growth. The circular economy, central to this innovation, not only benefits the environment but also fosters more resilient systems and stimulates further advancements in sustainable practices across the industry.”
