BMF seeks new chairman

Kevin Cubbage is standing down as chairman of BMF, the trade association for builders merchants and building material suppliers in October and a successor is being sought.

Cubbage was appointed chairman in May 2005, subject to annual re-appointment by the BMF Board, and subject to a maximum of 5 years in office.

He was the first chairman under the new structure of BMF and, with the Board, was responsible for bringing out and implementing a new strategy and vision for the association.

In a letter to members sent out yesterday, Cubbage said: “Right from the outset, my job was to play a leading role in helping to make the BMF one of the best trade associations in the UK – and one which every Builders’ Merchant and Building Materials Supplier would wish to join. In carrying out all these tasks I have been tremendously supported by the rest of the BMF Board, who have been unstinting in giving their time on a voluntary basis for the good of the BMF.

“Since that time we have continued to pursue and develop our ‘4 pillars’ strategy, improve operating controls and procedures and to do everything we can to support and defend merchant distribution channels. There’s no doubt that Chris Pateman’s campaigning passion is making a very significant impact in this last area.”

Cubbage will hand over the chairmanship at the BMF Members Day in October.

Anyone wishing to be considered as a potential candidate is asked to contact Cubbage at Larums,

Eaton Bray Road, Northall, Nr. Dunstable, Beds LU6 2EU Tel: 01525 220361 e-mail: kevincubbage@larums.com by Friday 24th April 2009 latest. All expressions of interest will be treated in the strictest confidence.

BMF have also announced a restructuring of the way member communication and training needs are handled.

All day to day communication, regional meetings organisation and member concerns will be handled at Head Office by Christine Harding and Carole Green. They also retain their current responsibilities for BMF marketing and product/supplier liaison. Jon Clay, Membership Services and Website manager, is also part of the new team.

A new streamlined training department includes John Stephenson, responsible for field sales and sales and leadership tutor Colin Hayman. Administration will be handled by Sean Kelly at head office.
