Spit anchors show their strength

Anchors from ITW Construction Products’ Spit brand have been used to secure the new balustrades at Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club’s Trent Bridge ground.

Spit anchors show their strength

The Spit LDT Large Diameter Tapcon anchors were used to fix the balustrades to concrete stairs in the new Bridgford Road stand and in the refurbishment of the existing stand. In total, over 300 anchors were used on the project.

Because the LDT Tapcon anchor cuts its own thread, all that needs to be drilled is a pilot hole and then the anchor is driven home using a hand or impact wrench. It can be installed in less than half the time of an M12 shield or adhesive anchor.

In this case the LDT Tapcon was the only product that could give the required strength on the shallow concrete stairs.

Colin Barnett, managing director of balustradede-maker JWC Fabrication Ltd, says: “Although resin anchors had been specified, the concrete stairs were only 100mm thick, which meant it was not possible to drill a hole deep enough to accommodate a resin anchor that would offer the pull-out strength that was required. LDT Tapcon anchors were the only product that would deliver the strength we needed.”
