The charity match pitted SIG cricketers against a team from one of its biggest customers, Horbury Building Systems, with local sports reporter Seth Bennett and former Sheffield Wednesday star David Hirst joining SIG and Horbury’s teams, respectively.

Cricket legend Harold ‘Dickie’ Bird also attended the event to host a ‘Dine with Dickie’ charity meal and, through his own charity the Dickie Bird Foundation, provided two qualified umpires to preside over the match.

Horbury won the match at the Abbeydale Sports Club in Dore, but both teams were ‘thrilled and very proud’ to have raised such a significant donation for Cancer Research, said SIG’s event organiser Garry Johnson.

Representatives from SIG and Horbury presented Cancer Research UK’s representative, Carole Ibbotson, with a cheque for £6,200 at the end of the day.
