Football legend Pearce opens Leyland store

England football legend Stuart Pearce has cut the ribbon on a new decorators’ merchant store in Hammersmith.

Pearce, who represented England 78 times including nine as captain, was the star attraction as Leyland SDM opened the store at 137-139 King Street. It is Leyland SDM’s 33rd store.

Leyland SDM has opened eight new stores opened in the last two years – with more planned during 2023.

Martin Hastings, CEO of Leyland SDM, said: “We’re delighted to have officially opened our new Hammersmith store, which follows months of planning and preparation.

“It was fantastic to have local hero Stuart Pearce along to cut the ribbon and meet our customers, who were thrilled to see such a well-loved character in-store.

“We’re also proud to be supporting the local community with donations to Hammersmith & Fulham RFC and Flora Gardens Primary School, both of which play a key role in the area. We have a growth strategy in place which will see us further enhance our presence across London. It’s great to get 2023 off to a positive start.”

The opening celebrations also saw Leyland SDM unveiled as an official sponsor of Hammersmith & Fulham RFC – and there was a donation of £500 worth of materials to nearby Flora Gardens Primary School.

Pearce said: “It was fantastic to be at the official opening. I was born and raised not far from this new Leyland SDM store in Shepherd’s Bush and I also started out as an electrician so I could relate to the customers.

“It was great fun to mingle with customers and have a game of table football. I’m sure this store will prove very popular with both tradespeople and home improvers.” The former Nottingham Forest fullback mingled with customers and challenged them to a game of table football.
