Conex Bänninger develops K65 alloy

Conex Bänninger, in conjunction with Wieland copper alloy tube production, has developed K65, a copper-iron alloy in response to the increased demand for CO2 R-744 in commercial refrigeration applications. Where standard copper pipe can’t withstand the required 130 bar. K65 bridges the gap by offering a lightweight, easy-to-braze (no welding required) copper-iron alloy that is specifically engineered for the rigours of high-pressure CO₂ systems. K65 is readily identifiable and easy to distinguish from traditional copper due to its slightly magnetic property, the K65 and 130 bar markings. It is available in a wide range of fittings from 3/8” through to 2 5/8”. When professionally installed K65 fittings are covered by a twenty-five-year guarantee.

Developed in conjunction with Wieland, a producer of copper alloy tubing, K65 was created in response to the increased demand for CO₂ R-744 in commercial refrigeration applications, and in particular supermarkets.

As the market phases out high-GWP refrigerants, Conex Bänninger’s K65 braze system provides installers with a lightweight alternative to steel. The material is intended to be simpler to cut, faster to transport, and is available in a wide range of fittings from 3/8” to 2 5/8”.

Standard copper pipe cannot withstand 130 bar, but K65’s copper-iron alloy is engineered specifically for the demands of high-pressure CO₂ systems. With CO₂ offering zero ODP and a GWP of just one, K65 is identifiable by its slightly magnetic property and clear markings.
