Builders Merchants Journal – BMJ Publishing to Builders Merchants and the UK merchanting industry for more than 95 years
The BMF has revealed that Jewson and Richmonds PHM are the latest merchants to achieve recognition for their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint, and Danosa UK is the latest supplier member to do so.
This brings the total number of Zero Carbon Business Champions, within the Construction Leadership Council’s CO2nstruct Zero Programme, to 33.
CO2nstructZero facilitates collaboration between construction companies that are demonstrating initiative in relation to carbon reduction, sharing their good practice with others from across the sector, and providing a set of metrics that enables the industry, quarterly, to collectively measure its progress to net zero.
The latest report shows continued progress across several areas including the use of electric vehicles and progressing a common approach to cutting diesel from work sites.
Jewson has set science-based targets and is working to achieve them, with zero emission vehicles one priority. Jewson is also engaging with its employees and supply chain to upskill them and working with their supply chain to decarbonise.
Richmonds, a plumbing and heating specialist, now uses only electric fork lift trucks and has partnered with a heat pump manufacturer to open a Sustainable Home Centre dedicated to training installers in the new technology as well as specifications and sales.
Danosa UK engineers energy efficient and environmentally focused flat roofing solutions for new build and refurbishment projects, together with advice and technical support for customers and architects. Danosa also focuses on its own carbon footprint, having introduced solar plants at all production facilities and migrated its fleet to hybrid and electric vehicles.
