Builders Merchants Journal – BMJ Publishing to Builders Merchants and the UK merchanting industry for more than 95 years
Builders’ merchant, MKM Building Supplies, is set to open its 142nd branch, at Edinburgh Fort Kinnaird, on March 9 2026, creating 17 new jobs and continuing the company’s expansion across the UK in 2026.
The new branch, led by branch directors James Douglas and Scott Fowler, will stock leading brands including Global Stone, Siniat, Kingspan, James Jones Timber, Superglass, Marshalls and Symphony, ensuring strong availability across both structural and finishing products.
Douglas says: “Edinburgh is a brilliant place to work and live. It’s got history, character and a busy trade scene. There’s also a huge amount of building work going on across the city. Opening a proper independent merchant here is a great opportunity.
“We’ve recruited a strong team, we know the local market, and we can shape the offer around what customers actually need. The aim is simple. Build the best builders’ merchant in Edinburgh.”
