Government moves to counter housing slide

The Government is planning a huge boost to the public sector housebuilding in order to make up the shortfall from the private sector
The Housing Corporation has been asked to come up with 180,000 affordable homes by the government in the next three years and has been given an £8.4bn budget to do so.

A number of options are being considered to alleviate the problems caused by the current credit crunch. This includes letting the public sector take a bigger role in larger developments, expanding partnerships and encouraging more housing associations to develop “rent now/buy later” schemes.
