Exclusive: Southern Brick bought but Abingdon branch closes

The Abingdon branch has closed with the loss of 12 jobs.

The sale of the Poole and Southampton branches was completed on the evening of August 27, according to joint administrator Geoff Rowley. “Sixteen jobs were saved there. Regrettably, we’ve had to cease operations in Abingdon.”

Last month Rowley told buildersmerchantsjournal.net that Southern Brick was a victim of the current state of the market. The housing slump led to a drop in sales and while the directors tried to cut what overheads they could, they were unable to restructure the business sufficiently.
