Bence's builders merchants joins UKGBC

The Cheltenham builders merchant has pledged to do all it can to change the face of the construction industry in Gloucestershire.

Managing director, Paul Bence, said: “As part of the construction product supply chain, we have a big part to play in helping the environment. First and foremost, that will involve educating ourselves and then to drive the eco building forwards.

“At the moment, many eco products aren’t very well established and are difficult to get hold of in the area, there is certainly a void in the marketplace where we want to supply them in Gloucestershire to make the county’s buildings environmentally friendly.”

Bence, who took over as managing director in September, said over the next year a new eco-showroom would be developed at its Cheltenham headquarters.

The 157-year-old company, which has been in the Bence family for six generations, was praised by Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood during a visit this week.

Horwood said: “I’m very impressed that a business that has been within the Bence family for generations is still thriving and successful and now getting ahead of the environmental agenda as well.

“They are setting a real standard, not just for Cheltenham, but for those in the construction and supply chain across the whole country. I’m very proud a Cheltenham business has taken the initiative.”
