Regular readers of this blog will know that I don't trust politicians - of any ilk- further than I can throw them. And as a journalist I think I'm supposed to be completely neutral. However, I'm a bit fed up with a lot of the hoo-ha in the papers about last week's elections.

I'm back on the Green Deal again.

This morning I watched my 18 year old neighbour head off for the school where he's just finishing his A level exams. When he's completed them, he has three months of partying, travelling and a bit of part-time working before he goes to university.

There's a lot to like about social media - Twitter, Facebook etc. There's also a lot not to like - the online abuse of JK Rowling and a radiator salesman who just happens to have the same name as one of the BBC's newest, least experienced, football commentators spring to mind.

So the tabloid journalist in me is dying to write the headline: Government in listening to merchant industry shock.

It's a particular bug-bear of mine (yes, I know, another one), the fact that too many people don't really seem to know what a builders merchant is.

The last time I saw this many was probably when the digital TV switch off was looming.

Sometimes it's nice to be able to say 'I told you so'. Often though, it's more of a pyrrhic victory.
