If any day was designed to be a "duvet day", today is it.

So many initiatives sound great on paper but fall down in the execution. Partly because no-one has thought out right from the start, exactly how the schemes will work in actual, real-life practice.

Forgive me for inflicting some of the details of my domestic life upon you all, but as I sat at the kitchen table, surrounded by union jack flags and all the paraphernalia to make red, white and blue themed cupcakes for tomorrow's school Jubilee street party, a thought occurred to me.

So today Thames Water Anglian Water and Southern Water have announced that they "believe it to be appropriate to end the current hosepipe ban sooner than anticipated".

Apologies if this turns into a 'grumpy old woman' type of blog but I feel the need to get something off my chest as it were.

Great. We've spent a morning at the NMBS conference learning all about the opportunities offered by the Green Deal only to learn that the proverbial rug is about to be pulled out from under the industry's feet. Again.

As something of an Olympic geek, and a girl to boot, the speaker line-up of this year's NMBS all-industry conference was always going to grab my attention.

Well this is all a bit of a shambles isn't it? The biggest, most high-profile event the UK has ever held starts next week and, oops, we haven't got enough security guards for it.

Regular readers of this blog will know that I'm a big fan of sporting endeavour, of giving your all in the pursuit of glory. And, if that glory comes with an Olympic medal attached to it, then so much the better.
