Founded by John Williams in 1973 in Avonmouth, Bristol, SEL is an established supplier of excavation support equipment and temporary groundworks solutions; during the past five decades, the company has worked across projects of varying sizes across the country, including some of the UK’s largest construction jobs.

Julianna Williams, managing director at SEL – and the daughter of John Williams, said: “Since my father first established SEL, the business has had to adapt and grow as the construction and civil engineering industries have continued to evolve. Over the years we have embraced new technologies, expanded our offering to include services such as engineer’s advice through temporary works design, as well as build on the quick and efficient service to keep up with demand.

The health and safety of our customers and their staff remain at the forefront of everything we do, and we pride ourselves on the knowledgeability of our friendly team, which has helped us to build and maintain a loyal customer base over the years. Here’s to the next 50!”

Back in 1973, SEL had four members of staff and focused on access and ground control. Today, the business employs 48 team members and continues to expand its range of equipment and services, which includes falsework and formwork solutions, Trenchless Technology, lifting and utility equipment, and temporary works design – a service that provides engineering advice and solutions for construction jobs.

Over the years, the company has also expanded its operations to Cardiff and London where SEL’s construction equipment are available to hire and purchase.
