Simon Acres takes Gamble on merchant training modules

Andy Gamble, former managing director of RGB, and recently retired with over 40 year’s builders merchanting under his belt, has joined forces with training provider Simon Acres Group on an online training programme for builders merchants.

An Introduction to Builders Merchants by Andy Gamble is suitable for anyone considering a career within a builders merchant,  new starters  or apprentices.

It will cover an overview of what builders merchanting is all about, customer types and how we trade with them, how to handle those busy times, how to handle customer objections and complaints and looking for those added sales opportunities when time allows.

Gamble says: “I’ve over 40 years experience in this industry, and I am passionate about it, and the opportunities it offers to build a career. In the introductory module, I will share some of my experiences built up over the years, but it is not a How to, guide, I won’t be telling participants what to do or how to do it. I will make suggestions, observations and tips which will help the participant, their employer and the customer in their dealings with the business.

“I’ve dedicated my entire career to the builders merchanting industry, and I understand the challenges, triumphs, and the importance of exceptional customer service that you encounter daily. From starting as a trainee to progressing through sales and eventually leading one of the Southwest’s prominent builders’ merchants as managing director with a team of approximately 375 employees, my journey has been a testament to the possibilities this industry offers.

My goal in this course is not to dictate what people should do but to share my views, experiences, and knowledge. I aim to sow seeds of inspiration and offer ideas that can enhance  job satisfaction and elevate the end customer’ experience. I want to be a guide, drawing from my decades of hands-on experience to help participants navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities that come their way in the builders merchanting world. Together, we can make the job more enjoyable, and most importantly, we can enhance the quality of service provided to customers.”
