The restaurant, which overlooks the River Orwell, has a high level of footfall and a hardwearing oak floorboard was needed.

For the installation, SikaBond-52 Wood Floor was used. Offering I-cure technology – a unique patented fast curing, bubble-free hardening system that offers improved adhesion that is both solvent and odour free, the product was strong enough to use on the 15mm thick oak boards.

Compatible with all SikaBond Elastic wood floor adhesives, Sika’s Rapid DPM was applied before the engineered boards were laid to help prime and seal the sub-floor below.

Being solvent free it was safe to use inside the restaurant and, due to its extremely quick drying qualities, ensured that the prepared subfloor was ready for the application of the wood flooring in the minimum amount of time.

Toby Willis, project manager from Suffolk Food Hall, said: “With high levels of traffic passing through the restaurant on a daily basis, the selected adhesives needed to work with the floor without succumbing to the effects of general wear and tear. Sika Rapid DPM and SikaBond-52 Wood Floor undoubtedly did the job, enabling us to create a flooring solution that will look good for years to come.”

Mick Hooper, key account manager from Sika, said: “We continually develop our flooring range, making sure we offer the best products in the business to stay the contractors number one choice. The intelligent curing system of the SikaBond-52 Wood Floor adhesive was especially useful on this project as it was applied using the SikaBond 5400 dispenser which was further complemented by Sikabond Rapid DPM, and created the perfect product package, enabling the flooring installation to be completed to a high-standard in approximately a third of the time of a normal wood floor installation.”
