Redland launches BS 5534 advice

Redland launches BS 5534 advice

FixMaster Online is an instant response tool for merchants, contractors and specifiers. It allows them to get an up to date fixing specification for all Redland tiles and slates and can be accessed via internet and mobile phone. To accompany this, Redland has also published The Redland Guide to BS 5534 which explains the changes to the Code of Practice in detail.

Marketing manager Kevin Horne said: “The revised Code of Practice is significantly different to what has been the baseline standard for roofing practice in the UK. It is vitally important that all in the industry – specifiers, merchants and contractors alike – are fully up to speed on what the key changes are and what they will mean for their business.

“At Redland we want to help roofers and merchants understand what impact this will have on their businesses and how they work, so we developed these free, easy-to-use resources that are available to everyone. Alongside FixMaster Online and the guide, Redland will be providing training in association with the NFRC on the new Code of Practice.”

The key changes to BS 5534 largely focus on the installation and fixing methods and will require contractors to use a range of modern products and practices which presently many may be unfamiliar with. The changes can be grouped into three main areas: mechanical fixing of ridge and hip tiles; tile fixings and underlays. Each is addressed separately in the Redland booklet.
