The award was made in the New Year’s Honours List for services to the building industry and to charity.

On the official ceremony, Hindle said: “It is a privilege and an honour to be presented with this accolade, but is not one person’s achievement that is being honoured here; it is a reflection of the efforts made by the 11,000 people employed by Saint-Gobain Building Distribution UK & Ireland. I am proud of the dedication and commitment of every individual within the company and I would like to thank them all, once again, for their continued support.”

One of Hindle’s initiatives was the establishment of the Together programme, an annual fundraising initiative for SGBD UK and Ireland. Since its launch in 2002 the Together programme has raised almost £2m for charities including Wish Upon a Star, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Cancer Research UK. A new partnership has just been officially launched with Help the Hospices, the leading charity supporting hospice care throughout the UK.
