MKM Chelmsford celebrates charity event

The event took the form of a celebrity ‘Evening with’ dinner and entertainment for customers; the celebrity in question was Martin Peters, former West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur football player and member of the 1996 World Cup winning England squad.

The idea of branch director Mark Ward and branch supervisor Allan Davis, the evening raised £3,500 via ticket sales, a raffle and a charity auction of footballing memorabilia.

Davis told buildersmerchantjournal.net: “We wanted to get more involved in local charities and the community, getting the MKM name out there. We’re already sponsoring Chelmsford Football Club so a football-themed Evening With seemed a good link.

“The Little Havens Hospice does a fantastic job and it was wonderful to be able to raise so much money for them. We had a speaker on their behalf, Donna, whose daughter was cared for by the hospice before she died. It was a very moving speech and there were certainly a few tears amongst the audience.

“We will certainly be continuing our support of the charity.”

Little Havens Children’s Hospice, Essex, provides respite breaks, symptom control and end-of-life care to youngsters not expected to reach adulthood because of a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.
