Age UK Wandsworth, based on Old York Road, was gifted paint and decorating materials from Leyland SDM’s Clapham Junction store on St John’s Hill.
The donation, part of Leyland SDM’s long-standing commitment to serving the London community, will allow the charity to revamp a waiting room used by staff and visitors.
Frank Colley, deputy manager at Age UK Wandsworth, said: “We are very grateful to Leyland SDM for this wonderful donation.
“We recently launched a new day service where we provide care and support to more than 25 people a day – but our main office is a very old, cold building.
“As you’d imagine, there is hardly any natural light as we are in the basement so we need to do what we can to brighten it up for our hardworking staff and to create a welcoming environment for our visitors.
“This generous paint donation will make the world of difference and will lift everyone’s spirits.
“The team at Leyland SDM Clapham Junction has been very helpful. We can’t thank them enough because every little bit of support helps, particularly at the moment.”
Services offered by Age UK Wandsworth include information and advice, companionship for people who are isolated, practical DIY help, a foot clinic and assistance with shopping.
Christophe Guillet, Leyland SDM Clapham Junction store manager, said: “We were delighted to help Age UK Wandsworth with this donation. It’s vital that charities like this exist and continue to offer these invaluable services.
“The charity makes a huge difference to the lives of many older people in Wandsworth. I’m sure this re-decoration project will help to improve the environment for everyone involved.
“Being at the heart of, and supporting, local communities is important to Leyland SDM and we’re pleased to help the people and groups who live in close proximity to our 32 London stores whenever we can.”
