Jewson becomes supplier for Falkirk Council

The Jewson Falkirk branch will now supply Chain of Custody certified hardwood for the unitary authority, which provides all local government services for an extensive area covering 112 square miles.

As part of its ongoing commitment to update existing housing stock, Falkirk Council utilises large volumes of timber – in the production of door and window frames for its social housing stock.

The council’s proactive and stringent procurement policy has resulted in a silver status award from the WWF as part of its ‘What Wood you Choose’ campaign, designed to raise awareness of sustainable timber.

“We have a strong track record in establishing innovative and effective partnerships, linked to our strategic priorities,” said James King, procurement officer at Falkirk Council.

“Sustainability has long been at the heart of our procurement processes and after attending a CPET workshop – we became aware of the WWF’s ‘What Wood You Choose’ campaign. This really invigorated and helped tighten our approach to the procurement of timber. We now have key suppliers in place, including Jewson, as well as stringent processes to ensure that the timber we receive is PEFC or FSC certified and Chain of Custody audited.”
