The newest name in the UK construction materials market is Hope Construction Materials, the company formed out of disposals from the Tarmac and Lafarge merger.
Indian steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal bought the businesses that Tarmac and Lafarge were forced to sell to meet Competition Commission requirements on their merger last year.
Hope Construction Materials will offer cement, concrete, aggregates and asphalt, operating more than 170 ready-mixed concrete plants, two asphalt plants and a number of aggregates operations. It’s name is taken from the UK’s largest cement plant – which it now owns – at Hope in Derbyshire.
Hope Construction Materials CEO Chris Plant said: “Hope is the first major new name in the British building materials sector for more than a decade.
“We have a rare opportunity to take a different approach to customer service, bringing in new ideas, innovative products and services, and better ways to meet the needs of the construction industry. We have specifically designed the company to encourage fresh thinking and bring an entrepreneurial, partnering spirit to the industry.”
