Construction output growth continues in Q3

Output in the construction industry grew by 0.8% in Q3 compared with the previous quarter, the latest industry data has estimated.
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the industry has experienced continued growth with output increasing by 3.5% in September 2014 compared with September 2013. This indicates the 16th consecutive period of year-on-year monthly growth.

Compared with the previous month, output was estimated to have increased by 1.8% in September 2014, following a fall of 3.0% in August and an increase of 2.0% in July.

The main driving force behind growth in the industry was new housing work, which was at its highest monthly level in September since 2010.

New public housing work grew 5.7% in Q3, compared to Q2, and new private sector housing grew 4.9%.
